We’re halfway through summer and you’re probably beginning to hear things like “I’m bored” and “What are we going to do today?” Don’t let your summer be a bust! These helpful tips will keep your kids happy and on track all summer long!
1. Stave off boredom: Send your children to a great summer camp!
When choosing the right camp for your little ones, consider the size of the camp, distance from your home, whether it is a day or overnight camp, and the costs of the camp. For day camps, pack healthy lunches and apply sunscreen before they leave the house! For overnight camps, remember to pack light and include sunscreen and bug spray! Inquire about the age, background, and training of counseling staff and the drug/alcohol policy. Most of all, choose a camp with fun and educational programs your children will enjoy!
2. Prevent the Summer Slide!
Read Read Read! At least 20 minutes a day of reading will help your child gain reading skills and prevent the backward slide over the summer. Encourage your children to read something every day and take time to read aloud to them as well. Reading aloud to your children will help them build listening comprehension skills and a larger vocabulary! Not sure what books to get for your child? Do your children love technology? There are tons of fun learning apps geared towards children for mobile devices that kids can play over the summer to exercise their brains and practice math and other skills they learned during the school year. 3. Enjoy the Space Coast!
Take time this summer to visit some of the Space Coast’s best family destinations! The beach
is always popular with the kids. Go in the morning or early evening for the best temperatures and bring a cooler with snacks and plenty of water. Also, don’t miss the fun and affordable Brevard Zoo
this summer! In addition to checking out the many fascinating animals, your little ones will have a blast cooling off in the Paws On splash park and petting the sheep and lamas in the petting zoo. During the summer, they also host special events such as Arctic Blast Tuesdays and Summer Saturday Nights. If you haven’t visited the Kennedy Space Center
, this summer is a great time to do it! With a one day ticket, you get access to the Visitor Complex, Space Shuttle Atlantis, IMAX shows and more! There are tours available and you can even have lunch with an astronaut! For more family fun in the area, check out Destination Brevard
