Summer Fun

As summer camp comes to an end, I’m writing this blog post to reflect on the previous weeks. This was my third summer volunteering at camp, and it will not be my last. At camp this year, we learned about a variety of topics, but I specifically helped in the Singapore Math, Rock and Read, and Junior Rangers. Campers learned to use new techniques in math, that reading can be fun, and that you do not need a laboratory to do cool science experiments.

Over the weeks, quite a few people have asked me why I volunteer at summer camp. After some thinking, I have realized that I enjoy summer camp as whole because it is one of the few volunteering opportunities where I feel I am making a difference. I have had the privilege of working side-by-side with great teachers who taught me when I was younger. Also, I have gotten to meet many smart young campers that have helped me grow as a person. And besides, where else can I volunteer and still have recess?

  1. It was such a pleasure having the Upper School students on the Parish Campus this summer. The relationship between the teenage counselors and our campers was a strong example of positive mentoring. I am looking forward to them coming back to help us with summer camp 2013!
